Graceland is an old cemetery from the Victorian era.
In 1860, it was built. At the time, Lincoln Park was the city’s cemetery. In 1871, bodies were moved from Lincoln Park to Graceland. It was taken down after a fire broke out in Chicago. The Getty Tomb is where George Pullman was laid to rest. At age 66, he died of a heart attack in 1897. People in his family were worried that his former employees or other supporters might dig up his body, so they took extra care to make sure this didn’t happen. His casket was lined with lead and buried in a block of concrete so that it could not be opened. After that, asphalt, tar paper, and more concrete were used to cover the coffin. The bottom and sides of the hole where his family was buried were made of strong concrete. Before the whole thing was done, people had to be buried for two days.
